Volunteer Time! And more

Hope all are doing well. Here we are at the end of September and glad we are heading into cooler weather. I am reaching out to once again thank you for all your collective help last April for our successful Jazzaffair, and I am hoping I can count on you to help again this coming April for our 50th Anniversary Festival. Our dates are April 10, 11, 12, 13, 2025. We still are seven months away and anything can happen, but I mainly want to ask if I can put you on our Jazzaffair email list? That way you are up-to-date to all that is going on.

I have been busy reading old newspaper clippings, Jazzamania and old programs of the Club for the past 50 years and writing somewhat of a history. It’s been a task, but really, I’ve enjoyed going back and remembering all the old players and community people that have helped make this amazing event happen. Leuder and dad then Charlie, Vic and Bruce were regulars at our house jamming in the Early70’s. It’s hard to believe all the original Jazzberry Jam band and High Sierra Jazz Band are gone now except Bruce! Pieter retired and now Howard and Marc with Paul carry on the tradition with the Sierra Stompers.

Several Jazz events are coming up:

Charlie Castro

October 13th, Sunday at 1:00 will be a Celebration of Life for Charlie Castro. His family and the Jazz Club are sponsoring this at the Memorial Building, the family will have a slide show, food and of course play music as we pay tribute to the amazing life Charlie had and shared with us.

Saturday, December 14th 2024 This will be the Jazz Club's Christmas party. This annual event will feature our Sierra Stompers Jazz Band. Doors open at 12:00 with the bar featuring fun Christmas spirits with music starting at 1:00. The tradition is everyone bring your favorite finger food or treats that we all enjoy at intermission, $10.00 admission.

For JAZZAFFAIR The band line up is made, and we have lots of fun sets planned. They include, The Sierra Stompers, Blue Street, Gino and the Lone Gunmen, Dave Bennet Quartet, Memphis Speed Kings, Tom Rigney, the Ragabonds, Oakie Weiss and the Zydeco Playboys, Sonny’s Boogie Woogie Boys, Nathan’s Fearless 5, Holland & Coots Quintet, Bob Schultz Jazz Band, St John’s Riverboat Band, Woodlake High School Jazz, Dave Stuckey, Jan Sutherland, Pieter Meir and more!!!!

Chearl and I are looking for some help to get local sponsors for the 50th History/Memorabilia program we are creating. There are always other activities I could use the help with (deciding tee shirts now) so if some of you have some extra time available give me a call 559-303-5193.

We will be doing everything mostly the same as last year, Thursday: Sponsor party, Kickoff dinner/concert, Friday: Rowdy Breakfast, Three River Elementary Concert, and 3 days of fun music at 3 venues.

Hope you can join us again for some or all.

As I always say, Stop and take time to hear the music!

Sincerely, Linda
